Join us September 26 at Melissa Joy Manning for "Alchemical Objects", an installation celebrating Demetria Chappo's Smoke-Fired ceramics. Her collection of vessels, moon mirrors, jewelry dishes, rattles and wall hangings are fired using a combination of sawdust, wood, and local materials. Each piece bears the memory of its materials, marked by flames and smoke, resulting in surfaces that resemble galaxies. 

In addition to this latest collection, Demetria presents a series of Bespoke Smoke Offerings, a unique and personal experience to create your own signature vessel marked by cherished mementos. Using treasured materials you’ve collected, Demetria will wrap your smoke offerings around your pot during the firing, producing indelible smoke traces and fire marks forever capturing your memories in the vessel. A limited number of Smoke Offerings vessels will be available for advance purchase.

Your treasured materials should be natural combustible materials - burnable remembrances like flowers and leaves from a treasured bouquet or location, feathers, shells or small stones, a lock of your child’s hair, a love letter, or perhaps the peel of fruit from your favorite meal.
