Holiday Handbuilding Workshop - Dec 10
Join me in my studio in midtown Kingston for good cheer and creative company to make a special handmade ceramic piece for yourself or to gift this holiday season. Learn handbuilding techniques - pinching, slab forms and coiling, and make up to 3 pieces using your hands and a few tools. After the workshop, I’ll fire and glaze your pieces in time to be picked up before the holidays.

Kids Holiday Handbuilding Workshop
Kick off the holiday season with a festive morning of kids pottery at L’Atelier! On Sunday, December 8th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, we invite young artists of all ages (5 and up) to join us for a special pottery experience, with guidance tailored to each child’s age and skill level.
In this festive workshop taught by local artist Demetria Chappo, kids will have the opportunity to hand-build their own holiday gifts, such as ornaments, candle holders, and menorahs. After shaping their pieces, they'll enjoy decorating them with colorful, food-safe underglazes. We’ll handle the final steps of glazing and firing to make sure each piece is ready for pickup right on time for the Holidays!

Join us September 26 at Melissa Joy Manning for "Alchemical Objects", an installation celebrating Demetria Chappo's Smoke-Fired ceramics. Her collection of vessels, moon mirrors, jewelry dishes, rattles and wall hangings are fired using a combination of sawdust, wood, and local materials. Each piece bears the memory of its materials, marked by flames and smoke, resulting in surfaces that resemble galaxies.
In addition to this latest collection, Demetria presents a series of Bespoke Smoke Offerings, a unique and personal experience to create your own signature vessel marked by cherished mementos. Using treasured materials you’ve collected, Demetria will wrap your smoke offerings around your pot during the firing, producing indelible smoke traces and fire marks forever capturing your memories in the vessel. A limited number of Smoke Offerings vessels will be available for advance purchase.
Your treasured materials should be natural combustible materials - burnable remembrances like flowers and leaves from a treasured bouquet or location, feathers, shells or small stones, a lock of your child’s hair, a love letter, or perhaps the peel of fruit from your favorite meal.
Artwalk Kingston

Art Walk Kingston is a celebration of the arts and the local community. Over the course of two days, visitors and local residents are invited to explore three distinct areas of the city of Kingston and immerse themselves in a range of art and events. Painting, photography, woodwork, and ceramics are just some of the mediums that will be on display at art studios, home studios and galleries.
