Hello!
Thanks for visiting my site.
I hope the pieces I make bring beauty and meaning to your home.
Thank you for supporting artists and small businesses.
My Process
I create every piece by hand, pinching, rolling slabs, coiling and throwing on the wheel. After I form the clay I paint, draw or carve into it creating intricate surfaces. Then its glazed and I fire it in a kiln over 2200 degrees.
I love the tactility and versatility of clay. I have always been inspired by organic and architectural objects, combining texture and pattern with symbolic references.
Studio and Teaching
My studio is currently located in New York’s Hudson River Valley.
In addition to making my own work, I teach ceramics and love sharing the process and magic of clay.
I’ve taught both adults and children for years at many wonderful community studio spaces and art schools, including Clayworks on Columbia, Educational Alliance, Bklyn Clay, and Artshack Brooklyn.
Here’s a five minute pinch pot meditation filmed during clay at home with Clayworks on Columbia.
I also teach workshops and private lessons. If you are interested in getting your hands in the clay, send me an email, deme@demetriachappo.com
